Wolf Anatomy - Part 4 by Autlaw Wolf Anatomy - Part 4 by Autlaw
TumblrYoutubeTwitterFacebookFlickr

This is the last part of my study/tutorial on wolf anatomy. This was a fun one to do because I like adding details (:

Again this is just the way I learned to draw wolves, it are all studies I did analyzing existing pictures and video's. It's not perfect and I still need to work a lot on getting the anatomy right myself as it is hard to apply it to drawings.

I hope the tutorials will give an insight in the basic anatomy of the wolf though. And remember that trying to draw these kind of sketches yourself will make you learn even faster ! (:

P.S.
:bulletblack: These sketch and study sheets are just the way I have learned to draw wolves. They are just guidelines, of course you don't have to draw them this way. Draw them as you like and use these as anatomical guidelines to help you understand their movement and shapes (; !
:bulletblack: I do not own any of the reference pictures I used for drawing these, they are just studies for improvement and to help others out (;
:bulletblack: I want to point out that I am NO EXPERT in the field of wolf anatomy or canine anatomy or other animals their anatomy. I simply learned how to draw the basics and I still have to learn a whole lot myself. Thus these studies are NOT perfect. I want to point this out since many people ask me for advice when it comes to drawing canines or wolves and think I'm an expert. But I am not :,D

I've been told that the two middle claws on a wolf paw usually point slightly towards each other. Is that true? Just needed to clarify :D

I'm not completely sure if that's always the case for the middle toes. But over the years I've seen a lot of photographs showing the middle claws on both dogs and wolves moving a little bit towards eachother.

It's not very exaggerated though if it's the case the middle toes move towards eachother, like here: texx-wolf-tails.webs.com/DSC02…
It's just a bit visible, but not exaggerated (;
